Our 5-year categorical program includes an integrated internship year with rotations at hospitals in Little Rock including UAMS, Baptist Heath Medical Center, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and St. Vincent Infirmary.   All of these hospitals are located within several minutes of each other, reducing commute times.

The intern year is comprised of 12 total rotations including two rotations in radiology, with one radiology rotation at UAMS and another pediatric radiology rotation at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  These radiology rotations provide a valuable learning experience and help interns to become familiar with the various PACS and dictation systems at UAMS.  During the internship year, residents learn about pathophysiology and clinical management by working alongside clinicians in the following areas:

  • Hematology/Oncology – Outpatient
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Infectious Disease – Consult service
  • ICU
  • Gastroenterology – Outpatient
  • Pulmonology – Consult service
  • Orthopedics – Outpatient
  • Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
  • Endocrinology – Consult service
  • Internal Medicine – Consult service
  • Radiology – UAMS
  • Radiology – Pediatrics at Arkansas Children’s Hospital

Residents share in call responsibilities during rotations at Baptist and St. Vincent, which make up about half of the rotations.  Call is split among the group of interns at Baptist Heath Medical Center or St. Vincent Infirmary during a respective month.  Interns have 3 weeks of vacation.  Interns, being a part of UAMS Radiology are welcome to attend Radiology lectures at UAMS

The intern year provides an excellent opportunity for residents to transition into their Radiology residency, allowing for some valuable exposure to Radiology and a rewarding internship experience.
