Boot Camp

Resident holding hands to make a human chain.Taking place during the first month of the R1 year, Boot Camp orientation is designed to ease the transition from clinical intern to budding radiologist. The schedule includes basic radiology lectures by senior residents and faculty from all divisions, discussions of policies and procedures and expectations, time to complete administrative requirements, and hands-on simulation activities. Senior residents offer practical advice related to daily responsibilities, call, board preparation, and radiology life in general. Fun team-building activities are included, such as a Radiology Escape Room, as well as social activities. Our annual department float trip on the beautiful Buffalo River is the highlight of Boot Camp for most residents.

What our residents have to say about Boot Camp:

“I am so glad that UAMS has a Boot Camp as we start our R1 year–it made the transition to Radiology residency so much smoother.   We learned everything we needed to know about our rotations, and we all had a great bonding experience with the other R1s.  Boot camp provided us with an opportunity to ask all of the questions we had, and the faculty and upper level residents are really dedicated to teach us and to prepare us.   Boot Camp was a lot of fun, and I would not have been as prepared for the start of residency without it. “

iPads

The department provides every resident an iPad for personal use throughout the residency. The iPad is preloaded with links to the best radiology websites, basic radiology articles, and the Chief Residents’ “unofficial” guide to residency.

We also pay for your access to e-anatomy, RadPrimer and STATdx for your entire residency. These tools will help you prepare for clinical responsibilities and the CORE exam.
